Golf Rules & Regulations

The golf activities will be overseen by the Golf Committee appointed by the Board of Directors of the Club. The Golf Committee will be in charge of all tournament operations, handicapping, golf operation procedures and all areas pertaining to the playing of the course and enforcement of rules that apply to the golf course. It is the intent of the golf rules to ensure the maximum enjoyment and safety of all golfers at Jonesboro Country Club. All members are encouraged to become familiar with these rules. It is hoped that, by taking pride in Jonesboro Country Club and the golf course, the attractiveness of our club will be improved. [accordion]
General Rules
A. Rules of the United States Golf Association, along with any local rules set by the Golf Committee or the Golf Professional will be in effect for all play. Local rules will be published periodically by the Golf Professional and will be available in the golf shop. The Golf Committee suggests that due to the excellent condition of our course, members are encouraged to play the ball down during the months of May through September.
B. The Board of Directors from time to time may post additional rules governing the use of the golf course on the bulletin board in the clubhouse. These rules will be in effect and enforced at all times.
C. The golf course will be OPEN for play March 15 through October 15 from dawn to dusk. From October 15 through March 15 the golf course will be OPEN for play depending on temperature and conditions. On days when the temperature is below 35 degrees, the golf course will be CLOSED until such time as the Greens Superintendent opens it for play. The golf course will be CLOSED on Mondays except for Memorial Day and Labor Day. the course will then be OPEN these days and CLOSED on Tuesday.
D. The cart storage facility opening and closing hours will coincide with the golf shop hours of operation.
E. No jogging, walking or bicycle riding on the golf course is permitted when the course is open for play. Fishing is restricted to designated areas. You must have permission from the Golf Pro Shop prior to fishing. Fishing is catch and release. No fish may be taken away from the pond.
F. The Golf Professional has the authority to change the golf course rules for particular situations.
G. Only food and beverages purchased at Jonesboro Country Club will be allowed on the golf course.
H. All litter must be deposited in appropriate containers provided on the course.
Starting Times
A. All players must sign up for a tee time. Groups can make arrangements for tee times in person or by telephone with the golf shop. Tee times should not be scheduled more than two days prior to the date of play (i.e. - Thursday for Saturday, etc.).
B. Discretion is vested in the Golf Professional to accommodate groups of members who have failed to get a starting time. The Golf Professional will only be allowed such discretion when there is a place for such a group and members who have starting times are not unduly inconvenienced.
C. All players are encouraged to play an eighteen (18) hole round in under four (4) hours. If a group falls out of position (one hole or more behind the group in front and over a four hour pace), the slow group must invite the group behind to play through, or the group behind may ask to play through. When play is delayed due to a lost ball, the group playing behind shall be invited to play through when action will speed up the play of the field. Two-somes and singles have no standing on the golf course as relates to the above.
Responsibilities
A. While on the golf course, all players will comply with instructions from the Course Marshal, if one is appointed by the Golf Professional. It will be the duty of the marshal to enforce all rules for the general benefit of Jonesboro Country Club.
B. The Greens Superintendent has absolute authority pertaining to the playability of the golf course.
C. Each member is responsible for the turning in of an accurate score following each eighteen (18) hole round. The Golf Committee shall be responsible for the establishment of handicap procedures. The committee, at its sole discretion, may determine the handicaps of participants for club sponsored events based on facts presented to the committee.
D. The Golf Committee must approve all tournaments. E. Parents of juniors are charged with the responsibility of acquainting their children with the rules and etiquette of golf at Jonesboro Country Club before permitting their children to play the course.
Play Restrictions
A. Tuesday morning play is restricted to adult women from 9:00am until the last groups of the Ladies Golf Association have completed teeing off. Play will be open to men at 11:00am.
B. All players must begin play on the number one tee. No one may begin play on number ten tee without permission from the Golf Professional or his designee.
C. No twosomes are permitted to play on Saturday, Sunday or Holidays until after 2:00pm from March 15 through September 15, unless allowed by the Golf Professional.
D. Twosomes have NO priority over larger pairings.
E. Groups of six will be allowed to play with permission from the Golf Professional.
F. Children under 10 years of age may not play golf until 2:00pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays except when accompanied by an adult member.
G. No one under 16 years of age may play in any adult club sponsored tournaments.
H. On days of tournaments no play will be allowed prior to the start of the tournament without approval from the Golf Professional.
I. Groups playing 18 holes should play the full round in a continued fashion (i.e. - no extended breaks for lunch, etc.). Failure to adhere to the rules will result in a loss of position. The group should return to the number one tee if they wish to play additional holes.
J. Players should play holes consecutively and not in random order.
Practice & Driving Range
A. All practice shall be confined to the practice tee, practice green and putting green.
B. Range balls are available until 6:30pm during daylight savings time. You must be off the driving range by 7:00pm for balls to be picked up by darkness.
C. When the driving range is open or is in the process of balls being picked up NO personal balls may be used. All range balls must be purchased from the golf pro shop. When the range is closed and cleared you may hit your personal balls.
D. The driving range is limited to five (5) iron through wedges. Four (4) iron and up may be hit under the personal supervision of the Golf Professional only.
E. The west end tee box is to be used for private instruction and lessons by the Golf Professional only.
Golf Attire
A. Members and guests must be in appropriate golf attire when playing or practicing. All male golfers must wear collared shirts with sleeves. T-shirts, tank tops and halter tops are deemed inappropriate attire. Appropriate bermuda length golf shorts shall also be worn. Cut-offs and gym shorts are not considered appropriate attire.
Classifications of Guests & Restrictions On Play
A. In Town Guest - An in-town guest is a guest who has been personally invited to play golf by a member and who resides within a 60 mile radius of the Club. The in-town guest must be accompanied by the member. An in-town guest may play ONE time during any calendar month. In-town guest fees will be determined by the Board of Directors and the Golf Committee.
B. Out-Of-Town Guest - An out-of-town guest is a guest who has been personally invited to play golf by a member who resides outside a 60 mile radius at the Club. The out-of-town guest must be accompanied by a member. An out-of-town guest may play two times during any calendar month. Out-of-town guest fees will be determined by the Golf Committee and the Board of Directors.
C. House Guest - A member having a house guest must register the guest with the Club Office and receive a guest card. A house guest may play a maximum of ten days during any three-month period and may play without the member. House guest fees will be determined by the Golf Committee and the Board of Directors.
D. Reciprocal Guest - A reciprocating guest is a guest who is a member in good standing of the USGA affiliate country club who has a reciprocating agreement with Jonesboro Country Club. Such a guest must register with the Club Office and receive a guest card. A reciprocating guest may play without a member at the Golf Professional's discretion. Such guests will be limited to two foursomes per day at non-peak hours as determined by the Golf Professional. Reciprocating fees will be determined by the Golf Committee as approved by the Board of Directors.
E. Grandchild Guest - A member is allowed to have a grandchild play at no charge for two golf rounds per month. The grandchild must be twelve (12) years old and under, and must be accompanied by the member grandparent.
F. A member shall limit the number of guests invited to use the golf course to a maximum of four at any one time. A member wishing to invite more than four guests to use the golf course at any one time may make such a request, in advance, to the Golf Committee.
G. Other Guests - Members of the golf team at Arkansas State University and Jonesboro High School have customarily been invited to use the club facilities to practice and play matches. Such arrangements are renewed each year between the Board of Directors, the University and the High School.
H. Jonesboro High School Golf Team - Playing privileges are extended to a maximum of ten (10) players. Play hours are after 2:30pm Tuesday through Friday. The Club requests that a Coach be present and that playing groups not exceed a foursome. Appropriate dress is expected.
I. Arkansas State Golf Team - Playing privileges are extended to a maximum of ten )10)players per team. Playing hours are after 2:00pm Tuesday through Friday and before noon on Sunday. The club requests that a Coach or Graduate Assistant be present and that playing groups do not exceed a foursome. Appropriate dress is expected.
J. Group Use of Golf Course
1. All groups use of golf course must be member affiliated.
2. At least one member in each group
3. All play requires tee times.
4. Special member affiliated groups wishing to block more than two consecutive tee times will be permitted, but must be worked out two weeks in advance with the Golf Professional.
K. Non-Affiliated Tournaments - Any non-member affiliated tournament will be considered for approval by the Golf Committee on an annual basis. Requests for such tournaments must be received by either the Chairman of the Golf Committee or the Golf Professional by November 30 of the prior year to the tournament being held. Each request will be considered for approval by the Golf Committee, and if approved, will appear on the schedule of tournaments for the following year.
L. Night golf shall be prohibited except for the Annual Men's Golf Association Tournament.
Golf Cart Procedures
A. Each operator shall operate golf carts in a careful and safe manner.
B. Members are fully responsible for any injury to person or property, including damage to the golf cart while in their use by members of their family or their guests. Neither the Club nor the Golf Professional shall be liable for any injury to person or property, which might result from use of a golf cart.
C. Club owned carts may not be operated by any person under the age of sixteen (16). Persons sixteen (16) and older may operate privately owned carts on Club premises. Otherwise an adult must accompany the driver.
D. Members of privately owned carts may seek a waiver for fourteen (14) and fifteen (15) year olds at the Golf Pro Shop. Improper operation will result in cancellation of the waiver at the discretion of the Golf Committee.
E. Signs, cart paths and ropes will guide the direction of golf carts.
F. Golf carts may not be driven any closer than 20 yards to any green or marked areas, except when a cart path is being utilized, or signs require a return to the cart path.
G. Golf carts may not leave the cart path on any Par 3 hole.
H. When operating a cart, the driver should avoid any worn areas, ground under repair or bare areas within the rough. The driver should utilize the 90-degree rule to leave and return to the cart path. A sign at number 1 tee will indicate whether carts are allowed off the paths or required to stay on the paths.
I. No more than TWO (2) riders are allowed on any Club owned cart.
J. On privately owned carts no more than THREE (3) riders are allowed on a one seat cart and no more than FIVE (5) riders are allowed on a two seat cart. ALL riders must have a seat.
K. Violations of Golf Cart Rules will result in a $100 fine.
For those who have an impairment which creates physical difficulty in being able to move about the golf course the following golf cart procedures apply.
A. For JCC Members a request for special designation to allow greater access to the course during conditions deemed "Carts On Path" may be made in the office or the golf pro shop. The request will be presented to a council consisting of the Club President and two appointed Board Members who will render a decision on the request within seven (7) days of receipt in the Club Office.
B. Those being approved will receive a designator, which identifies them as having greater access due to a disability. This will allow them to have normal access under the 90-degree rule of movement during "Carts On Path".
C. These designated carts must follow all the guidelines specified above. The operator should be very aware of the wet conditions, ropes and signs as great damage can result from driving through soft ground & wet areas.
D. During the "Carts On Path", only ONE disabled person may be in the cart when it is off the path. This limits the damage being done to soft ground and all areas of the course.
E. During conditions when the course is open but it is not feasible to allow vehicle traffic the sign will read "Carts On Path: No Exceptions". During this time NO carts will be allowed off the cart paths.
F. For any JCC guest who requests a special designation for golf cart use the Golf Professional or Club Manager may approve a one day only access on a temporary basis.
Golf Course Care
A. All divots should be properly repaired.
B. All ball marks or depressions made on any putting surface shall be carefully repaired in the proper manner. Please consult the Golf Professional on the proper way to repair ball marks.
C. After playing a shot from a sand trap, all depressions and foot prints should be carefully smoothed. Sand traps should always be entered and left from the lowest point of entry to minimize damage to the trap.
D. All members are encouraged to use proper containers for cups, cans, bottles or other refuse. To maintain our beautiful course, please pick up any articles not belonging on the course. Your help is appreciated.A. Safety - Prior to playing a stroke or making a practice swing, the player should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, ball or any flying object due to the stroke or swing.
Rules of Common Courtesy

B. Do not stand close to, move or talk when a player is about to hit. Do not stand in the line of another player's putt.
C. The player who has the honor should be allowed to play before the opponent tees a ball.
D. No player should play from the tee until the players in front are out of range, nor play up to the putting green until the players in front have holed out and moved away.
E. Go immediately to your ball. Make your club selection and be prepared to hit when it is your turn.
F. Players should leave the putting green immediately after the last player has holed out. Players should not re-putt, practice putt or take time while still on the green to mark scores.
G. In the interest of all, players should play without delay. If a group falls more than one hole behind, they should allow the following group to play through.
H. Players searching for a lost ball should allow following groups to play through when such action will speed up play for the entire field.
I. Be considerate of other groups on the course. Do not yell or shout in a manner that will affect the game of the other players on the course.
J. Players should learn and observe the rules of golf.
